Have you heard about the miracle diet that helps you lose weight without much effort?
The way it works is like wishing upon a falling star or throwing a coin into the wishing well.
Or if you are the religious type, maybe a prayer in the middle of the night when everyone else is asleep. You would wish for good things to come. In this case “please, I want to lose weight”
The next morning you would jump straight out of bed excitedly. You bounced to the mirror, giggling to yourself like a little girl only to be slapped in the face by your own reflection because you are not living in a fairy tale.
I’ve read about religious stories a lot, but I have never heard of people getting buffed and slim by the work of God overnight.
“I lost weight with the help of divine powers,” Nope..Never in 25 years of my life.
Even our friendly neighborhood spidey got a free “steroid” jab from a rare poisonous spider.
Whatever the methods involved, putting in our effort is still a must.
There are no passive weight loss methods that exist in this unfair world. Especially when you talk about the world renown Low-Carb Diet.
What is a low-carb diet?
Do I really need to explain when it is sooo obvious? Next question, please.
A low-carb diet is also known as Low-Carb High-Fat(LCHF) diet and what it means is that you would have a very low amount of carbohydrate source in your meal and a high amount of fat. It can be as low as 10-30grams of carbohydrate.
Then one would ask would that be enough to feel satiated or unhungry?(if there is such a word).
The reduction of carbohydrate would be replaced with an increase in fats and proteins. You will be eating lots and lots of healthy, tasty, and nutritious foods like meats, eggs, fish, healthy fats, and colorful veggies that replace the usual rice, bread, pasta etc.
What about the high fat? Well…We are only going to eat fats from natural and healthy sources and not from processed foods like fast foods.
You will still feel that you have been getting enough food to do your daily activities while your body starts to reorganize itself in a way that burns fats efficiently.
How does low-carb diet works?
The main reason why such diet was created and popularized by those who wish to lose weight without counting calories is that there is a strong scientific evidence to prove its effectiveness. Yes, it does burn fats quickly.
The study has shown that reducing the amount of carbohydrate intake will prevent the body from storing the excess calories which will be converted to fats if it is not used up by the body.
Since we are consuming more protein and fats to replace the carbohydrates, our body will achieve satiety at a lower calorie intake. This is due to the high calorie per fat molecule and also how proteins are found to get digested slower than carbs and fats too.
What it means is that you will still feel full even though you had a meal size that is smaller than what you usually have.
In a previous post, I have stated that our body main source of energy is obtained from a carbohydrate source. Even though this is true, there are rare cases when the body will turn to fats and protein for an energy source.
This happens when there is an insufficient amount of carbohydrate in the body.
With this in mind, when we reduce the carbs in the body, our body will turn to fat for the source of energy which is also known as ketosis(not to be confused with ketoacidosis).
It will start to burn fats to gain energy, which is exactly what all of us want – to burn fat.
LCHF diet also reduces the possibility of eating refined and processed foods that will affect your blood sugar level and your evil cholesterol levels(LDL) while at the same time ensuring that you have a well-balanced, nutritious meal.
So you will end up being healthier than those who have been consuming a normal diet.
Abs are made in the kitchen, we all know that. This diet lets you get closer to that goal. It is one of the ways that will allow yourself to eat anything you want without having to worry about cutting calories.
You will get to reap its benefits like:
- Maintaining lean muscle mass
- Losing fats
- Prevent chronic diseases; diabetes type 2 for example.
There are still a lot we should know before going on reducing our carbs from our diet.
